Evgeniy Pak

Evgeniy was born in Osh, the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan known to the world as the center of the Great Silk Road. Born into a family of physicians, he has dreamt since childhood of becoming a doctor. His mother is a well-known endocrinologist in Kyrgyzstan and his uncle is Professor of Urology in the Russian Scientific Center, Moscow. As a child he liked to actively participate in discussions of medical issues, expressing his own views. In 2003, Evgeniy graduated from the medical school of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University, Kyrgyzstan. After graduation, he was accepted for residency in urology. His father’s lingering illness- he suffered from chronic kidney deficiency - influenced Evgeniy’s choice of his specialization. He works as a doctor in the Center of Family Medicine “Family World”. In addition he works with Rainbow, the non-governmental organization that deals with AIDS problems, lecturing in schools, working with both patients and communities. Rainbow aims to call attention to the problem of AIDS at the regional level. Apart from his professional career, Evgeniy was Captain of the city soccer team “South”. In his free time, he also enjoys playing piano.

During his time as a Sauvé Scholar, Evgeniy successfully completed his paper and research on Cardiovascular Disease in Kyrgyzstan and will shortly submit it for publication in the Oxford Journal. An abstract of his research has also been submitted to an International Conference on Global Health, which will be held in Ottawa in October 2009. He is now seeking funding for implementation of a programme of primary and secondary level preventative medicine in Kyrgyzstan

“Leaders must dream of changing the world.

They must have an inspired vision of the changes they want to make and be prepared to consecrate all
their energy to that purpose. A capacity to communicate their objectives is indispensable to sustain
the enthusiasm of their collaborators and their perseverance in action.”
— The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Opening Speech to the National Conference for Young Leaders, June 2-8, 1991
