Sauvé Scholars Launches new Website

_

Montreal 5 December 2008 – The Jeanne Sauvé Foundation announces the launch today of the dynamic new Sauvé Scholars Program website www.sauvescholars.org, keystone of the Communications, Outreach and Recruitment strategy of the Program.

Launched in 2003, the Sauvé Scholars Program has evolved from the Jeanne Sauvé Youth Foundation, created in 1991 by the late Jeanne Sauvé, the first woman to serve as Governor General of Canada, the country’s Head of State and Commander-in-Chief.

Each year the unique residential Sauvé Scholars Program invites up to 14 exceptional young emerging leaders to share an experience of inquiry, debate and reflection, to help advance their careers, intellectual capacity and, most importantly, leadership potential. The rewarding personal and intellectual program combines reflection, study, travel and community engagement. Living together in a beautifully restored heritage house, the Scholars benefit from an enriching private program of seminars with eminent journalists, political figures and leaders in business, academia and the arts.

The academic home of the Sauvé Scholars is internationally-renowned McGill University. Sauvé Scholars enjoy the status of Academic Trainees at McGill and unlimited access to McGill’s academic and other resources. Each Scholar is guided by an eminent Academic Mentor, chosen for their expertise in the Scholar’s field of enquiry.

Now entering its sixth year, the Sauvé Scholars Program has welcomed 74 Scholars from 39 different countries.

The launch of the website is just in time for the final call out to Applicants for the 2009-2010 year. We had already received almost 400 applications, from 78 different countries, and history tells us that we can expect some 60% to arrive in the last week before the December 31st deadline.

“Leaders must dream of changing the world.

They must have an inspired vision of the changes they want to make and be prepared to consecrate all
their energy to that purpose. A capacity to communicate their objectives is indispensable to sustain
the enthusiasm of their collaborators and their perseverance in action.”
— The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Opening Speech to the National Conference for Young Leaders, June 2-8, 1991
